I have reached yet another milestone...40 pounds gone!


My starting weight of 287 is starting to become a distant memory ...as I am in the 240's now (246.5) for the first time since I don't really know when. Honestly it's been a LONG time. The best part is there is no looking back really.

I like to try to remember when I was at this weight last, but I just can't do it ...I'd have to say early college and that was 13 years ago! Once I started working out, I really, really enjoyed it. And, now I don't want to miss a workout. It's amazing to me how much more muscle definition I have in my legs, arms, neck and shoulders. I carried most of my weight in my chest and belly, so that's the part that's going to take the longest to lose, but crunches and leg lifts are working my abs ...I'm really into it that's for sure.

I don't look at it as a diet per se, but more of a change of lifestyle and it's working!

I really appreciate your support and encouragement also. It's been cool to have someone who knows what they're doing with fitness to keep an eye on me...It's amazing that when you commit to a healthier/more active life how easy it really is! 14.5 pounds lost, 17.25 inches lost and 7.3% body fat is away

I am a 50 year old female who has struggled with slowly added pounds through this last decade of life like many women I know. I have been in and out of weight watchers for 20 plus years. I still believe their "point system" works but I NEEDED MORE STRUCTURE! I was tired of THINKING about it all the time and trying to manage it and at best maintaining my weight but never seeing any consistent weight loss.

I now get up and click on the computer and see what I will be eating that day. Print off my sheet and put it on the refrigerator. Later I go back in and click up my workout and leave it up till I am done and check off each weight as I do it or register my time walking, or elliptic. Now, I can just get up and DO IT and know I will see results. This is for anyone who says, "Just tell me what to do and I will do it!" There is no THINKING about what to eat, what exercises to do, how long and hard should I keep my heart rate up for, or what snacks to have... I have found that there is freedom in submission.

I tried it MY way and it was EXHAUSTING SECOND GUESSING MYSELF! Now I just obey and IT WORKS! If you know you have to vary something, you are told how many calories and fat and protein you are shooting for in that meal. No more guessing. I really like also being asked HOW OFTEN I would like to eat. Eating more often really works for me so 7 times a day is great!

Accountability with Matt weekly is motivating too. Weighing in weekly while including all measurements is an other big motivator because we all know it is not just about the weight.

I guess in a nut-shell I would say this program is FREEDOM in letting someone else steer the boat! Now I can get on with LIVING because I know I WILL SEE RESULTS, so I can rest and enjoy the ride. - Pat Norwood

Last October I heard a rumor that others thought I'd had "work done" (plastic surgery) because I look so good. Wrong.

It's a site for women over 50 years of age and often statistics are displayed there. The "discouraging" statistics that say women over 50 "just can't" loose weight. I gained 25 pounds writing my doctoral dissertation. I not only wanted it off, but I wanted it to s-t-a-y off. I joined Changing Shape to have an experienced coach with the knowledge that I could not afford to hire in person.

I am 63 years of age. I now weigh what I did when I was 15 years of age. But the best part is that when I read something just too hard to imagine (like at my age 23 military pushups is "average") I just write Matt and I know that I am getting the real story from him. I don't need shock value. I don't need to feel incapable (I can do 23 push-ups from my knees, but not from my toes); what I need is the truth. I get just that from Matt.

Matt listened, asked wise questions and gave answers that showed he cared about helping me to find and maintain my life's health goals.

I walked across the stage to get my diploma with total confidence. There was nothing "hiding" under my doctoral gown other than a slim waistline. I have improved my self-esteem to new heights (btw: nothing is harder on self-esteem that rewriting your dissertation for the 87th time) and I feel so healthy. I was 26 and had been fighting a loosing battle with my weight since high school. Being overweight definitely runs in my family and I was worried that if I didn't get my weight gain under control, I would start to encounter the health problems that my Aunts and Uncle are going through at middle age. Plus I've been told it only gets harder to lose weight the older you get.

Katie After Weight Loss PictureI had tried the Atkins diet, the South Beach diet, and Weight Watchers but I tended to loose a few pounds and gain it right back. Plus I hated that with Weight Watchers you had to rely on their system of sliders, points and packaged food, which seemed like a disconnect from the thing that really mattered: i.e. how many calories you ate vs. how many calories you burned. I was starting to get really depressed; I hated the way I looked and felt. I really wanted a personal trainer who could help me understand what I was doing wrong and how to stay on track, but I knew I couldn't afford one.

So one day I typed 'Online Personal Trainer' into Google and I found Changing Shape. This was my chance to get help from a real human being without breaking the bank. So I signed up.

Matt immediately helped me set up a nutrition program that worked with my on-again off-again Vegetarian diet and helped me set up a workout routine on the his website that allowed me to work with just the equipment I had access to. I also used the Diet Contract form on the Changing Shape site to figure out what I was really trying to accomplish and to pin-point the reasons my dieting had not worked in the past.

The best part was that Matt was really good about writing back to me the very next day after I had filled out a Diet Contract, sent him a weekly check in or just emailed him asking a question. I really appreciated having a real person to talk with and feeling like I was accountable to someone who really cared was extremely motivating. So for months I counted my calories (with the help of an iPhone app) and sent Matt my daily calorie intake, and I followed the exercise plan he laid out for me.

Finally success. After nearly a year of working with Matt, I reached my goal weight! I lost a total of 30 pounds and felt SO much healthier and proud of my body. I was able to fit back into my old skinny jeans and got lots of compliments. And the workout sessions paid off in other ways, I was in better shape overall so I can now keep up with my boyfriend better when we go on hikes and was able to help a friend train for a 40 mile Breast Cancer benefit walk. So now I've actually reset my goal to a slightly lower weight (only another 10 pounds so I'm very close) and then I plan to work with Matt on learning how to maintain that weight and build muscle mass. My clothes keep seeming to fit better and be loser. I've actually thrown some away...

From the very start of this whole thing, my BMI has dropped from about 60 to about 53. 7 points! (I was initially appalled when I saw my BMI. I figured I was probably in the upper 30s...!)

My hips have gone from 55 to 53 in. My chest has gone from 40.5 to 39.5 in. My waist has gone from 47 to 39.5 - I can't really see that myself, but it HAS to be b/c the numbers show it. Looking at the comparisons really make me happy. -- Jessica S

I've spent the past 13 years feeling trapped in this huge body (when I used to be petite), and I've trying unsuccessfully to get out of it.


There was NutriSystem, Jenny Craig, LA Weight Loss, Weight Watchers, health club memberships, neighborhood walks, blah, blah, blah...

I'm liking this so far and I'm 1/2 a pound away from my 1st short-term goal!.. (almost 20 lbs now)... I'm starting to be able to tell in my body form that I am losing weight and shaping up. I can actually suck my tummy in and see a difference ...Some clothes are noticeably looser! My skin looks great- can get away without make-up and look like I have it on! Hair looks healthier. Face looks thinner... Skirts are getting too big; my winter coat zips now!

That's all great and exciting, but I'm thinking that my clothes are gonna go back to not fitting so well... My Daily Sleep
As a 40-year-old woman who has been overweight most of my life and tried more diets than I care to count, I was more than a little frustrated when I tried an internet search in November of 2007 looking for diet menu plans.


I wanted something that would take the effort out of menu planning and enable me to fix well-rounded meals that are satisfying and enjoyed by the family as well.

I found something better than menu plans - I found Matt :) When I first looked at changingshape.com, I couldn't help but think, "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is." In English, there's an exception to every rule. Matt is the exception to the "too good to be true" rule. I reluctantly signed up for the service because of the limited trial (hoping that when I wanted to cancel it I could actually get my money back!) My free trial has long since come and gone, and I'm still a very happy member of the Changing Shape website.

The menu plans (every meal, every day) are fabulous. Try the trail mix - it's great! There is a wide variety of exercise plans - from plans requiring only basic equipment to plans using expensive equipment. Matt is an active part of the process for me - rapid response to questions, changing anything I need changed, and providing helpful advice along the way.How happy am I? In just over 4 months on the site, I have lost 47.5 lbs - and that includes a full month when I did not lose (but neither did I gain) a single pound. That month involved circumstances in my own life - and the holidays. Had I been following the program more strictly, I would have lost weight then too. However, it was a huge accomplishment for me just to get through that period of time without gaining weight.

Changingshape.com is the perfect program for me right now. I began in January and have lost weight each week for a total so far 15 lbs.

My goal to reach is 18 lbs by the end of March. I am so excited that I am rejoining for another 12 weeks April 1, to reach my long term goal of 120.


What I like about this program is the accountability but not the feeling of failure if I don't make my week's weight loss. I have the freedom to check in whenever I want to. At first I used the menu's that were recommended, but now I use my own menu's but stay within the recommended grams per each food category that you recommend. I do the exercise program with some added exercises and classes. I have good energy now. I feel I am confident and motivated and know I am going to reach my long term goal.

The program is affordable which is very important to me right now. The behavioral contract is good because it allows me to really focus on why I was overeating in the first place. I was an emotional eater and trying to deal with the "stuff" in my life I guess through food. Now, thanks to this program I have control over this and really am focused and dealing with the obstacles in my life with good health. Matt, there are so many reasons why your program works. I think it is because it makes you evaluate all of your own strengths and weakness. This program focuses on the entire person body mind and soul. Or at least, I have used it that way. It has been more beneficial than any gym membership I've had in the past. It is great because I am responsible to someone for all of my exercising efforts, goals, and meals. In addition, you are affordable to the average mom.

I took off about 25 pounds initially and have maintained the loss. I've recommended your site to several friends. This has been the only weight loss program that I have been able to sustain into a life-style change.

I am more healthy, my knee pain has almost gone away (I was told that I need a knee replacement by my orthopedist) with only occasional flare-ups. I have been able to walk briskly without becoming short of breath and started kayaking with greater endurance. As a nurse practitioner with a MSN, I can now be more of a model to my patients.

I had been looking all over the place in magazines, the internet, and local programs for some support in getting back into shape after my son was born.

I came across an article on a fitness website recommending ChangingShape.com. It told about all the different features available to help set and reach fitness goals. So I visited the website and signed up for the free trial.

I was very pleased with the ease of access and the user friendly setup. I found the site to be everything the article had reported it to be. Then I got to know my personal trainer through e-mails. He helped me set realistic goals and kept me motivated to achieve them.

Even when I slipped up, I knew I could count on the encouragement to pick up and start over. I lost a total of 14 lbs by using the exercise and nutrition planners made available. Once I had a diagnosis, I had to learn how to live with this illness. Stress makes everything worse, so eventually I had to leave my job.

My ability to exercise is quite limited, but even so, I've lost 17 pounds in 3 months! My clothes are fitting differently, and I can see a big difference in my face.

My coach has been really understanding about my limitations and has worked with me at every step to make sure my program was right for me. I'm so grateful that I've found something that works, doesn't cause me stress and makes healthy living easy for me. After years of failure, I'm now on the road to success.

My health problems started about 8 years ago, before I had my kids. The first sign was that I gained 25 pounds in one month. I was already dieting and working out to lose 10 to 15 pounds, so I couldn't figure out what was going on. A few months later I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid. With treatment, my thyroid hormone levels went up, but I couldn't shake the extra pounds.

About a year later, I had my son. Two and a half years after that, I had my daughter. I held on to about 10 pounds from each pregnancy. I tried dieting. I joined a gym and was working hard. I gained muscle tone and stamina, but didn't lose a pound of fat. No matter how determined I was, nothing worked.

Then, about 2 years ago, my weight loss goals had to take a back seat. One day I was rushed from work to the emergency room with what appeared to be a heart attack. It wasn't, but no one could figure out what was wrong. A few weeks later, I was back in the ER with suspected appendicitis. Again, it wasn't that, but the doctors were stumped.

I continued to have extreme abdominal pains that ranged from a dull ache to stabbing, shooting and burning pains. I'm not just talking about run-of-the-mill pain, either - I'm talking pain that brings you to your knees; pain that makes curl up in a ball and cry; pain that I'd gladly trade for the 31-hours of un medicated labor I had with my son. I also started having extreme fatigue, anxiety, confusion, short-term memory problems, muscle weakness and dizziness. It was 6 frightening months before I finally had a diagnosis - fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that researchers are just now figuring out. Basically, the brain and central nervous system start to process things differently. Pain signals are amplified, as are sounds, smells, everything. That overwhelms the brain, and things start to misfire.

Once I had a diagnosis, I had to learn how to live with this illness. Stress makes everything worse, so eventually I had to leave my job. I have to pace myself, because if I don't I pay for by having more pain for a few days. I took me a year and a half to get healthy enough to consider myself functional again, and in that time I gained several more pounds. I decided it was time again to work on my weight.

I wasn't really sure where to start. The noise, lights and visual overload of the grocery store make it hard for me to think, and I just want to get out of there as fast as possible. I was having trouble making shopping lists that included healthier meal choices. I was all too overwhelming.

I went online and searched for weight loss plans, hoping to find one that was simple and straight forward and wouldn't force me to make one meal for myself and another for my husband and kids. I happened upon Changing Shape, and when I saw that meals were planned and the site would even put together a shopping list, I was sold.

I've loved the dinner recipes, and so have my kids! I never go hungry, and I don't feel pressured when I can't exercise or my weight plateaus for a week.

The entire program that you offer is great. I love the program.

I'm getting skinnier and my pants are almost too loose to wear. (YEAH!!!)... I love the meal plan. It's different, but easy to make. Also, I use most of the things that I would buy anyways. So it has been real easy.

The entire program that you offer is great. Not only are you helping me with what I should be eating, but you are helping know how to exercise. Which is always good. Plus, I get to do the work-outs at home (where with my time frame, it's more convenient for me.) I love the program. Checking in, also a bonus. It makes me accountable to someone other than myself. I've lost 10 pounds! Woo hoo!

I'm really beginning to notice physical changes in my body... I wore my favorite pair of pants the other day and had to keep pulling them up..! My jeans this weekend were remarkable COMFORTABLE! ....something is obviously working since I've lost 10 pounds! Woo hoo! I had my intermediate or short term ....can't remember which--goal to be 125 by May 1! I weighed 125 this morning. So that feels good. I've also noticed it doesn't take as much to feel full anymore. I'm glad for that. I've learned to stop eating when I feel satisfied instead of stuffed.

I very much appreciate the dialogue and the encouragement you give. I have surprised myself with sticking with this for the past 5 weeks. I think the small pieces of success that come from watching the weight come off are a great motivator. I really watch what I eat and actually MAKE time to exercise because I don't want the weight to come back ...I'm going to have to find a way to really "maintain" when I reach my final goal ....whatever that turns out to be. -- Angie Lappe

I just wanted to tell you I woke up this morning and I thought I would get on the scale and WOW for the first time in three years it was 165. I just about fell off the scale with joy. Thank you. I have gotten comments from a couple different people as well that I've been losing weight. This weekend I was able to pull out my jeans that are 4 inches smaller in the waist and I now fit into them. There a little snug but a better fit. My current jeans are way too baggy and bunch up. It's about time for me to go buy new pants again. And I am comfortably back into an old pair that were my "goal" jeans. -- Ronald M



I've lost 3 inches in my waist, 2 inches in my hips, and half an inch in my neck so far, since I can remember starting. I'm basically at my goal so I was wondering if I could change it to lose another 20 pounds? I don't want to be unrealistic with my goals so I wanted to break it down into segments but eventually I would prefer to weigh 150 pounds or less. I would ultimately like to stay under 150 for life. --Amanda M


I have to let you know this too, and I will repeat myself, you have been instrumental in assisting me in my fat loss. Something shifted. No more back pain or sciatica. Not taking any pain meds. This is good because I have to be off of them to get the steroid injections next Tuesday.

I can see that I'm getting smaller. I look in the mirror and I notice the difference visibly. My friends have started to notice changes as well but they've asked what I'm doing different to my hair or if I'm drinking more water. Thanks for your encouragement, btw.
