The Detox Diet: Losing Weight the Natural Way
By Tony Robinson If you prefer the natural way of life--organic
foods, home-grown vegetables, and fishing for yourself--the detox diet may
be just what you're looking for. This diet plan is designed to rid the body
of any toxic materials. Because of the numerous chemicals that exist in
our world, a number of individuals say a detox diet is necessary for good
health in the long-term. With the detox diet, the body rids itself of toxins
through the skin and lungs. The diet may be accompanied by other holistic
health techniques, such as the administration of nutritional supplements,
hydrotherapy, and physical activity.
How, exactly, does the body become contaminated by toxins? The contamination
can occur as a result of food additives, mercury, drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.
Through the process of digestion, the body takes in the toxins. In addition
to promoting weight loss, a detox diet can help heal migraines, stomach
trouble, colds, and joint pain. It may also be effective against heart disease
and arthritis.
You should not start a detox diet without talking to your health care provider.
It may be that you are suffering from symptoms such as pain or fatigue because
you have a serious illness that must be treated. In such a case, the detox
diet alone may not be enough to cure what is ailing you.
A detox diet may not always be appropriate. But if you believe you have
ingested a great deal of chemicals and you find yourself fatigued, the detox
diet may be beneficial for your overall health and well-being. Detox diet
enthusiasts say it should be followed at least twice a year in order to
improve one's health. If you suffer from a specific disease, however, you
may need to maintain the program for a protracted period of time.
You may notice immediate results from your detox diet. These results can
include enhanced energy, better skin, easier digestion, and clearer thinking.
Once your detox diet is complete, you should attempt to replenish your body
with nutrients in order to, in effect, "build your body" back
up.
However, there are certain individuals who do not make good candidates
for a detox diet. These include heart disease patients, cancer patients,
and kidney disease patients. And, while a detox diet can cleanse your body,
it should not be considered a substitute for your ordinary medication. In
fact, you should never stop taking medication without talking to your physician
first.
It should be noted that there are side-effects that have been associated
with the detox diet. These include migraines, skin problems, or fatigue.
Usually, however, these side-effects disappear in time. As a result, a number
of people actually use their vacation time in order to engage in detox so
that their work will not be compromised.
You'll be happy to know that there are a number of foods you can indulge
in while on a detox diet. These include fruits, vegetables, rice, chickpeas,
fish, oil, and herbal tea. While following the diet, you'll also need to
drink eight glasses of water in order to eliminate waste from the blood.
However, you should not drink immediately before or after your meals. You
should also make sure that you chew your food thoroughly in order to promote
proper digestion.
However, there are also a number of foods that you will have to give up.
These include sugar, milk, eggs, wheat products, gluten, and caffeine-filled
beverages. You must also avoid foods with preservatives, yeast, chocolate,
and anything that is high in fat.
Is it possible to lose weight with the detox diet? Most definitely. But
you could have a difficult time keeping the weight off since you will eventually
have to go off of the diet. However, it is possible that some of the dietary
guidelines that you observe while detoxing will continue long after the
diet is over.
Also, just giving up alcohol will ensure that you will lose weight. For
instance, you may find that you simply lose your taste for food high in
fat content. Nevertheless, the detox diet can be quite challenging--especially
if you are emotionally attached to the foods that are banned. Yet, in time,
you may decide that going on the detox diet was the best move you ever made.

Detox Aids - The Myth Of Detoxing
By Sacha Tarkovsky
Many people buy detox aids looking for a quick
miracle fix just from taking a branded supplement, which will cleanse your
body, but there is no evidence to support many of these claims.
If you want to detox properly it involves eating the RIGHT Diet to detox
your body not simply adding a detox aid. Detoxing is not that simple!
There are some easy ways to detox and this involves simply a change to
diet and don't forget your body's organs are designed to detox without any
help from branded pills or juices!
Let's look at the myth of detox aids and how to detox properly.
The body has its own detoxification system already!
Most of the pills, juices teas and oils sold as detox aids have no scientific
foundation to back up their claims, yet people still buy them looking for
a quick fix!
The reality of detoxing is that the body has its own in build detoxifiers
namely the liver, kidneys, skin intestines and lungs and they are designed
to remove and excrete toxins within hours of consumption.
Want to detox? Change your eating habits
The fact is to detoxify your body all you have to do is make simple changes
to your diet.
If you simply drunk more water (at least 2 litres a day) and ate more fruit
and vegetables your skin would look better and you would feel healthier.
Combine the above with removing from your diet what you know is bad for
you i.e alcohol cigarettes and caffeine and you will compound the feeling
of well being.
Think about it if our bodies can naturally detox and we simply add foods
we know are good for us and remove ones we know are bad, the body will take
care of the rest.
Logic tells you that if the body has organs to detoxify then how can a
pill or juice help?
If you are in eating foods which are bad, a branded pill or juice cannot
save your liver from alcohol or your lungs from smoke.
Detox naturally
All you need to do is eat a healthy diet and skip the detox aids. So, what
foods need to be removed? Here is a list of essentials:
Red meat Alcohol Tea coffee and anything with caffeine in it Sugar Dairy
products cheese eggs and full fat milk All processed and junk foods All
processed carbohydrates such as white bread and pasta
Keep in mind you if you eat naturally the body will take care of itself
and if you do fill it with toxins there is no miracle cure to remove them
that's left to your over worked specialist detox organs !
Eat raw vegetables, unsweetened fruit juices, brown rice, lean chicken
and turkey, fish and drink plenty of water and you will be getting healthy
foods that put the minimum of strain on your organs.
Some natural aids
If you want some natural aids try:
Milk thistle to help liver function, bio yoghurt to boost probiotics to
help digestion in the gut and finally, wheat bran, which speeds up the passage
of food through the colon and gives your digestive system a good clean at
the same - Its nickname is natures broom and its name is well earned.
Detoxing don't believe the myths
The above is totally logical and common sense.
Branded detox aids are of little use and feed on people's desire for a
quick fix. Alas, like all quick fixes if they sound too good to be true
and they are.
Your body can detoxify itself, but you well help it by cutting out bad
foods eating naturally and drinking lots of water, to help your organs do
what they were designed to do by mother nature without the help of a branded
pill or juice.

5 Easy weight loss tips
Drink Iced Water
Two litres a day minimum. Water has to be iced as the body will burn 100
calories just heating the water to normal body temperature. Also hunger
pangs are very often thirst pangs, so this will help you stop over eating.
Add lemon to flavour if you wish and gain the added benefit of cleansing
your liver at the same time.
Water also helps your body metabolize stored fat by helping the kidneys
flush waste quicker. When you don't drink enough water the liver needs to
help the kidneys perform this function. When the liver has to help the kidneys
its normal function of providing stored fat for energy is slowed down.
Green tea
Drink 5 cups a day. Research shows this can burn a massive 80 calories
a day! It is believed the antioxidant catechins in green tea boost the metabolism
and help burn fat.
Chilli sauce & mustard
These foods increase your calorie burning capacity by between 5 - 10% for
up to 2 hours after eating. This is because they contain capsaicin which
speeds the metabolism, so if you enjoy hot food your in luck!
Low fat diary foods
Can increase fat burning in the abdominal area. Why? Because these foods
are rich in calcium which encourages the release of fat from fat cells and
also reduces the amount of fat absorbed.
Eat Fibre
Eating fiber foods to help keep things moving through your bowel as stated
above and makes you feel full.
The average person can lose 9-10 pounds in one year just from doubling
their fiber intake aim for 25grams per day ( the average for most adults
is just 8grams ) fiber rich foods include strawberries, apples, brown rice,
chick peas, potatoes ( with skins ) and brown rice.
The above tips should be incorporated into a sensible diet and they will
enhance it and help you lose weight fast.
A medical doctor's opinion of detoxification
By Dr Leong Y.H A Medical Doctor's opinion of detoxification
Detox (detoxification) is a term that's came into popular use in the last
decade or so but only within the realm of alternative or holistic Western
medicine.
Conventional, mainstream (allopathic) medical practitioners have yet to
latch on to this concept, since they're only trained to treat diseases and
symptoms specifically without treating the patient as a whole.
However, the concepts associated with detox have been recognized and practized
in traditional Chinese (and other Asian, e.g. Indian Ayurvedic medicine)
society for at least 3,000 years.
Basically, detox is about: 1) Recognizing that the body is exposed to toxins
in the environment through the food we ingest and the air we breathe;
2) Adopting a systematic approach to help the body cleanse itself of these
toxins and avoid further exposure to toxins.
Detox methods include dietary changes, fasting, supplements, exercise,
yoga/meditation, improving the environment (using CFC-free hairsprays, for
example), New Age methods include aromatherapy, salt bath, skin brushing,
etc.
Do I believe in detox? Well, most of it is plain simple commonsense - proper
diet, judicious supplementation, adequate rest, exercise, stress-relieving
techniques.
I always believe that if the person's energy fields are harmonized and
balanced (yin & yang), then his health will generally be good. I also
believe that physical health follows mental and psychical health. So I'm
a believer in the holistic (Western or Eastern) approach to health.
But I draw the line at certain things. Colonic cleansing to me is unacceptable
and downright dangerous - people have died from colon perforation, water
intoxication, severe infections. The human intestines are self-cleansing
- there's absolutely no need to do anything else except eat a healthy, balanced
diet. Of course certain herbs and supplements may help someone with intestinal
problems like dyspepsia, indigestion, wind and irritable bowel syndrome.
As for treatments like sauna, foot baths, aromatherapy, etc, I feel the
effects are psychological more than physiological. If you feel good after
a good long soak in the bath, then you'll probably be more relaxed, less
stressed out, get better sleep, and generally have better health. So no
harm there.
Massages and spa treatments basically also do the same thing. Spirit, mind
& body must be in alignment for total well-being, a concept that's only
recently recognised in the West, but has been acknowledged in India and
China for millennia.
