How to Do Four Point Maneuver Abdominal Drawing

The four-point abdominal drawing maneuver should begin with good posture to avoid injury. Brace the spine by drawing your lower abdomen inward. Your core muscles should be activated to support your posture as you perform the exercise.

If any pain is experienced, immediately, stop the four-point abdominal drawing.

To conduct the drawing-in maneuver, lie down in either a supine or prone position. (Resting on your back is known as supine, while lying on your stomach is known as prone.) In the All-4s position, you can also attempt it (on your hands and knees with your trunk and head parallel to the floor.)

Movement

Maneuver Abdominal Drawing Movement

1. Start this exercise by lying on all fours. Your hands should be flat on the ground and your arms should be straight down. Keep your back straight and bend at your knees so your legs come straight back to you. Your knees and toes should be on the ground.

2. In this position, draw your lower abdomen up towards you. Don't forget to breathe while doing this.

3. If the exercise is performed correctly, your lower abdomen will elevate before your upper abdomen does.

4. Repeat in a slow and controlled motion.
