How to Do

How to Do Lunges in a Diagonal Position With Reach Down

The diagonal lunge with reach down should begin with good posture to avoid injury. Brace the spine by drawing your lower abdomen inward. Your core muscles should be activated to support your posture as you perform the exercise.

If any pain is experienced, immediately stop the diagonal lunge with a reach down.

Beginning

Beginning Lunges in a Diagonal Position

1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand while standing with your feet hip-width apart.

2. With one foot, take a broad diagonal step forward. Lower your body to the floor by bending your back knee. A 90-degree angle will be formed by your front knee. Return to the beginning and do the same with the opposite leg.

Movement

Lunges in a Diagonal Position Movement

1. Start this exercise with your arms by your sides and your feet hip-width apart. Make sure that your head is in line with your shoulders, hips, and knees. This is the starting position.

2. Take a step diagonally forward at about 45 degrees to your body with your right leg. Bend your right knee a little and transfer your weight to the front right leg. Fold forward at the hips and reach for the ground. Keep your back in a straight, strong line; at no point during the exercise should your background be changed.

3. Push off with your front right leg and return to the start position, and perform the exercise on the left side. Repeat for the required number of repetitions, alternating sides.

4. As you gain familiarity with this exercise, try to take larger steps forward diagonally, and bend the knee of the front leg more, making sure that your knee doesn't travel in front of your toes.
