Basketball, Moderate, Non-game

CARDIO

How to Do

The moderate basketball non-game should begin with good posture to avoid injury. Brace the spine by drawing your lower abdomen inward. Your core muscles should be activated to support your posture as you perform the exercise.

If any pain is experienced, immediately stop the moderate basketball non-game.

Beginning

1. A match between two teams with the same number of players. Each team has one player stand in a designated "5 point" zone (shaded in blue and green).

2. The player is free to move about the zone.

Movement

The team in possession of the ball exchanges passes with each other, collecting one point for each successful pass. If a teammate in the "5 point" zone receives a pass, the team receives 5 points! Passes are intercepted by the opponents. If they do, they throw the ball to the passing team, who will pick it up. You can play for a predetermined amount of time to see how many points your team can score.

ACSM Recommendations

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American College of Sports Medicine advocates that you take part in a combined 30 minutes of moderate to intense aerobic or anaerobic activity most days out of the week.

What does that mean for you?

Based on the intensity and your typical hour-long strength training and cardio program, that usually works out at three to five sessions each week.
